Romanian Simona Halep, winner of the last Grand Slam Roland Garros, will not participate in the Eastbourne tennis tournament scheduled for next week, the organizing committee announced here today.
'I'm really sad to announce my absence at the Nature Valley International next week,' the Romanian tweeted. 'I had a sore and swollen tendon during the Roland Garros and I still have not fully recovered.'
'The doctors have recommended resting a litter bit more while I continue the treatment,' she said, promising to return next year.
The number one in the world, who won her first Grand Slam title in Paris after three lost finals, will be presented at Wimbledon (2-15 July) without having played an official game on grass this season.
With Halep out, the Eastbourne tournament will present only four of the ten best players in the world, including the Czech and reigning champion Karolina Pliskova, and her victim in the final the Danish Caroline Wozniacki.
