Blue Jays acquire Giovanny Urshela from Indians

The Blue Jays have acquired infielder Giovanny Urshela from the Indians for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Toronto announced the deal Wednesday.

Urshela is a former top prospect for the Indians who was blocked in Cleveland by Jose Ramirez who emerged as an MVP candidate in 2017.

The 26-year-old has a history at third base, but has played all four infield positions in the minor leagues. Urshela is likely a depth addition for Toronto.

Urshela was batting .324 in 11 games in the minors for the Indians, but is a career .225 hitter in 148 MLB games.
