Simona Halep overcomes Maria Sharapova in a special list

Simona Halep became the world No. 1 for the first time last October during the China Open, and over the months she has showed consistency and played a quality tennis. 

The Romanian is spending her 22nd week on the throne of WTA rankings, which already allowed her to overcome many legends of the game like Tracy Austin and Maria Sharapova, who both spent 21 weeks as No.

1, Kim Clijsters (20), Arantxa Sanchez Vicario (12), Venus Williams (11), just to mention a few. Out of the 25 female world No. 1s in the Open Era, Halep is the 14th player who spent most weeks there. She is likely to overcome the 13th Dinara Safina who has 26 weeks, and then the 12th is Angelique Kerber, who was at the top for 34 weeks.
