Maria Sharapova added a new tournament to her 2018 schedule. The five-time Grand Slam winner will play in the new Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, that takes place from July 30 to August 5, 2018, at the San José State University, the new venue that replaces Stanford.
Last year Sharapova had played the event winning one match. 'I am excited to return to the Bay Area for the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic', Sharapova said in a statement. 'I always enjoy playing in California.
The region has tremendous tennis fans, and I can’t wait to see the tournament’s new venue in San José.' Sharapova, who reached 2010 final in Stanford, joins Madison Keys and Coco Vandeweghe in the field, respectively defending champion and defending finalist.
The 30-year-old plans to play the WTA Stuttgart on clay next week, which will be her first tournament since Indian Wells in March.
