Lara vs Hurd: Showtime fight headed to Las Vegas

It looks like the April 7 junior middleweight unification bout between Erislandy Lara and Jarrett Hurd finally has a venue, as ESPN reports the fight is likely headed to Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, after some discussion about the fight going to California’s StubHub Center.

The subject is on the agenda for the March 13 Nevada commission meeting.

Lara (25-2-2, 14 KO) holds the WBA title, while Hurd (21-0, 15 KO) will bring the IBF belt to the fight. Showtime will televise, and no undercard bouts have been added as of now.

Lara, 34, has won six straight since a loss in 2014 to Canelo Alvarez, but his level of opposition has routinely been criticized. Last year, he faced and defeated Yuri Foreman and Terrell Gausha, neither considered serious contenders in the division.

Hurd, 27, came onto the scene in late 2015 when he upset Frank Galarza on ShoBox, and last year defeated Tony Harrison to win the vacant IBF belt, then beat former titleholder Austin Trout in October.
