Rory McIlroy reveals who he thinks is the most underrated golfer in today’s game

Jordan Spieth embarked on his professional golfing career back in 2012, and it’s safe to say he hasn’t done too badly since.

The American, who turned pro as a 19-year-old, has claimed 11 PGA Tour winners’ medals whilst becoming a three-time major champion.

On top of all that, the 24-year-old became world number one back in 2015 after a second placed finish at the PGA Championships and winning the FedEx Cup.

The following two years saw him finish fifth and second in the world rankings respectively, with the American currently sitting third in this year’s standings.

Despite his impressive track record, fellow golfer Rory McIlroy has had his say on the current world number two, labelling him as ‘underrated.’

It was the Brit who had to hand over his world champion crown to Spieth in 2015 and currently finds himself 10th in the current standings after an 11th placed finish last year.

Speaking to Paul Kimmage of the Independent, alongside fellow golfer Padraig Harrington, the pair were full of praise to Spieth, but suggested that he doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves.

“I think the young guys over here should be paying Jordan Spieth a retainer. He plays with all of his mates," Harrington said.

Justin [Thomas] … Rickie [Fowler]”, replied McIlroy.
