The technical director of Williams Advanced Engineering has praised the quality of its supply chain in the Central & East region.
In an exclusive interview with Insider, Paul McNamara also spoke about the work the company is doing outside of Formula 1 and his views on innovation and skills
Williams Advanced Engineering is not just about cars and the automotive sector; it also operates in sectors and aerospace, defence and healthcare.
For example, one of the components it has recently worked on for the military has been in collaboration with Thales. The air-sampling device is used in air bases to detect biological hazards, with all the parts coming from its regular motorsport supply base.
McNamara told Insider: "We take specific aspects of the motor racing cars and apply them to other cars and other projects."
Another example of this is in the electrification of vehicles, an area they are working in collaboration with Aston Martin.
"We sit at the top of motorsport infrastructure," McNamara added. "And because of our size and brand the projects we work on we can bring all our motorsport suppliers with us. Our proposition is working with the motorsport industry from the UK."
McNamara will be the keynote speaker at the Made in Central & East England Awards 2018, the premier manufacturing awards for the region aimed at rewarding the work of manufacturers, designers and product developers to showcase their products and recognise their talented and committed workforces.
