McCall giving an update on his wounded squad: Injuries haven’t helped Saracens

Saracens boss Mark McCall is confident his team will turn their recent slump in form around and be in a good position by the end of January.

After six successive losses, the two-time Champions Cup winners know they must dig deep over the festive period in order to stop the rot.

Injuries haven't helped Saracens as they are currently without several senior players, with McCall giving an update on his wounded squad.

“Michael Rhodes is back next week, Billy Vunipola will be back in a few weeks’ time and Schalk Brits will be back in eight weeks’ time," he told Saracens' website.

“Maro Itoje will probably be back in three or four weeks’ time, maximum six weeks and he’s had a week and a half already.

“Liam Williams will be back in three or four weeks, Duncan Taylor is two or three weeks away and Brad Barritt got a concussion at the weekend so won’t play this week.

He added: “Richard Wigglesworth has also picked up and injury and will be out for six to eight weeks as well with Dominic Day being out for around 10 weeks."

Looking ahead to this week's European clash with Clermont, he stressed they would not overreact following that heavy loss at Allianz Park.

“We have an experienced group who have been together for a long time and the relationships that exist within the club are very strong; these are particularly important when you’re going through the kind of period we’re going through," McCall explained.

“We’re not a club that overreacts, but we’re not a club that sweeps things under the carpet either; it’s important to see what we could have done better.

“By the end of January, when we’ve played six games and have got some of those injured players back, let’s see how as a group how we’ve reacted.

“I’m confident that by the end of those six weeks we’ll be okay.”
