A new format the Continental Shield. How will the finalists be decided?

The Romanians, aiming for a place in the Challenge Cup next season, took control of Pool A with a 45-10 victory in Portugal over Centro Desportivo Universitario de Lisboa (CDUL Rugby).

Rugby Viadana, on the other hand, are without a win after losing to fellow Italian outfit Pataro Rugby Calvisano 41-14 at Pata Stadium.

In the other all-Italian affair in Pool B, at Stadio Plebiscito in Pauda, Rugby Petrarca defeated Femi-CZ Rugby Rovigo 18-13.

There was joy for Georgian side RC Batumi who beat Germans Heidelberger RK 33-16.

This season sees a brand new format the Continental Shield. The winner of Pool A will play the runner-up in Pool B, and the winner of Pool B will play the runner-up in Pool A home and away. The two clubs which advance will then play each other home and away with the winner securing a place in the final in Bilbao next May and also qualify for the 2018/19 Challenge Cup.

The other Continental Shield finalist will be decided by a home and away play-off between Russia's Enisei-STM and Krasny Yar.
