NFL Star Makes Huge Donation In Response To Charlottesville Riots

Philadelphia Eagles player Chris Long is donating six game checks to fund two scholarships to his former school St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The news was announced Tuesday, and Long said in part, “In August, we watched people fill our hometown streets with hatred and bigotry. Megan and I decided to try to combat those actions with our own positive investment in our community.”

A woman was killed in Charlottesville during a clash between white supremacists and Black Lives Matter protesters in August.

Long’s donation will come out to about $350,000, given the fact he’s only making a million dollars this year in base salary.

Pro athletes are often in the news for all the wrong reasons. You have to credit Long for not just speaking up, but also putting up a massive amount of money to backup what he says. More athletes from around the league should try to follow his example.
