Mahela Jayawardene heaped praise on Virat Kohli after India’s emphatic win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the series.
On the back of a Test series whitewash, Kohli once again led from the front as he side beat the hosts by nine wickets in Dambulla on Sunday.
Sri Lanka were well positioned at 139-1 after Niroshan Dickwella scored 64 but quickly fell away, losing eight wickets for 67 runs to be bowled out for just 216.

Sri Lanka legend Jayawardene hailed ‘proactive and aggressive’ captain Kohli and said the star batsman can prove his ability in difficult conditions during the remainder of the series.
‘Look he is a proactive captain. He is very aggressive,’ Jayawardene, who scored over 25,000 international runs during his career, said.
‘He has a brilliant record to start with, though most of the games were played in India, you still have to win matches.
‘He has led the team from the front so the rest of the boys are following him on and off the field. The test for them now will be playing away from home.’
The second match of the series, held at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, takes place on Thursday.
