Former French tennis star Jerome Golmard dies of ALS

Former French tennis player Jerome Golmard died Monday of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 43.

The French tennis federation announced Golmard's death on Tuesday.

Golmard was diagnosed with the disease in January of 2014. He later created a foundation to help other people deal with the disease.

The left-handed Golmard represented France in six Davis Cups. He also won two ATP titles during his playing career.

His top ranking on the ATP Tour was No. 22 in 1999.
