John Daly has had his fair share of trouble with substance abuse in the past, so he had some advice for his fellow golfer Tiger Woods after hearing that he was arrested for driving under the influence over Memorial Day weekend.
Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI after police found him stopped and asleep at the wheel on the side of the road early Monday morning. Although he wasn’t under the influence of alcohol, Tiger had taken four different prescription medications.
“I feel bad for the guy,” Daly told TMZ. “I mean he’s gone through all these surgeries. I’m not saying because he’s an athlete he should get away with it,” he added.
Daly also said the best thing for Tiger to do now is “just get back on the golf course.” Although Daly himself never got a DUI, he endured considerable criticism from fans and the media for his abuse of alcohol, yet is still remembered for his talents on the course. “This stuff will pass. It always does,” Daly added.
And for those criticizing Tiger for making a mistake, Daly asked (in his own way) for them to give him some slack.
“Hey, it proves he’s human,” Daly said. “He’s one of us, baby. I love him.”
