Rashad McCants once had a promising NBA career with a respectable contract. But now both are gone, thanks in part to Khloé Kardashian.
The former North Carolina standout thrust himself into the center of an ongoing investigation of the university after alleging that UNC kept him eligible to play through fake classes. He also alleged that head coach Roy Williams was complicit in the scheme, which many of his other players have vehemently denied.
McCants believes he’s been blackballed from the NBA due to his decision to go public with his allegations in 2014. That and his previous relationship with NBA jersey-chaser Khloé Kardashian, The Charlotte Observer reports.
“Without that situation in play, I’m a $60-70 million player,” McCants said. “Easily.”
The North Carolina native and fan favorite averaged 17.6 points in his three seasons with the Tar Heels and helped lead them to a championship in 2005. He was then drafted No. 14 overall in the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
McCants then went on to average 10 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting through four seasons before the Timberwolves traded him away to Sacramento in 2009. After Sacramento he bounced around a few more NBA teams before ending up in various European leagues and is now a top talent of the new “BIG3” three-on-three league.
Despite his reputation as a cancer in the locker room and fellow UNC alums allegedly blackballing him from the league, it seems McCants cast most of the blame for his failed career on his “highly-publicized relationship” with Kardashian, The Charlotte Observer reports.
Kardashian has had her fair share of damaging relationships with other NBA players to back it up, too.
Shortly after dating McCants, the reality television star dated Lamar Odom, who she eventually married and divorced. Then she moved on to the Houston Rockets James Harden, who recently said he needed to “eliminate” the Kardashian publicity from his life.
Now, Khloé is dating the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Tristan Thompson. But he probably doesn’t have a bad word to say about her, as he’s likely on his way to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances.
