Bernie Williams' jersey retirement game was the most expensive ticket in town in 2015, but nothing compared to Derek Jeter's goodbye.
According to ticket marketplace TickPick, the average ticket price for the New York Yankees and Houston Astros game on Sunday is $227.47. Williams' retirement ceremony on May 24, 2015 set fans back an average of $67.26 per ticket.
The average ticket price for Andy Pettite's ceremony on Aug. 23, 2015 was $59.64. Jorge Posada's special game set fans back $59.22 on Aug. 22, 2015. Mariano Rivera's game had an average price tag of $43.21 on Aug. 14, 2016.
The Yankees will sport special caps for the game, wearing a Jeter patch on the right side of its standard navy pregame hat and another patch on its in-game pink and gray Mother's Day hat.
Jeter, 42, had a 20-year-long MLB career. The No. 6 pick in the 1992 MLB June Amateur Draft came straight out of Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich. to win the 1996 American League Rookie of the Year.
The Yankees went to the playoffs in 16 of his first 17 full seasons and won the World Series five times, in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009. Jeter won the 2000 World Series MVP award and was a 14-time All-Star. "The Captain" also won five Gold Glove Awards and five Silver Slugger Awards.
He ranks No. 6 all time with 3,465 career hits.
In addition retiring the jerseys for Williams, Rivera, Posada and Pettite, the Yankees have retired the numbers for Billy Martin, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Joe Torre, Mickey Mantle, Bill Dickey, Yogi Berra, Roger Maris, Phil Rizzuto, Thurman Munson, Whitey Ford, Don Mattingly, Elston Howard, Casey Stengel, Reggie Jackson, Ron Ruidry and Jackie Robinson.
