NFL hopeful and former University of Florida defensive lineman Caleb Brantley has been charged with misdemeanor battery after hitting a woman in her face and allegedly knocking her unconscious.
According to two separate witness accounts detailed in a Gainesville police report, the incident that occurred early Thursday morning between Brantley and the woman began as a “verbal altercation.”
The woman became offended during the heated discussion and shoved Brantley. He responded by hitting the woman with a closed fist, knocking her out cold, Deadspin reports.
The police report states that the former Florida Gator’s “use of force was clearly out of retaliation and not self-defense.” The report also claimed that Brantley’s “force far exceeded what was reasonable or necessary.”
Brantley’s blow to the victims face was so powerful it displaced a tooth, and she will apparently need a root canal in order to fix it.
Brantley was projected to go in the second or third round of the upcoming NFL draft. Certainly his misdemeanor battery charge will have an impact on the defensive lineman’s draft stock.
